Student/Staff COVID-19 Rapid Testing
Dear Families,
Kaukauna Area School District has launched a school-based COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program. The purpose of this testing program is to provide students and staff within our school community easy, on campus access to a 15-minute COVID-19 rapid antigen test (Abbott BinaxNOW, supplied by ThedaCare) in order to more quickly identify those who have the virus, so those individuals can isolate sooner and minimize the spread of the virus within our schools.
After consultation with your school’s Health Office, an individual interested in testing should contact Vicki Becker at 920-766-6113 ext. 5448 or beckerv@kaukaunasd.org to schedule an appointment. The drive-thru test will be administered at Kaukauna High School (circle drive, adjacent the Bank of Kaukauna Stadium, Door #AA4); there is no charge for the testing. A testing technician at the site will provide additional necessary information, and a signed waiver is required for each self- or parent-administered nasal swab test. Those testing will get a phone call with results, which will be reported to the individual within 20 minutes, and then reported to the State. More information on the testing process can be viewed on the Abbott BinaxNow web page.
Be well,
Mark P. Duerwaechter
Superintendent
Kobussen Late Bus Text/Email Messages
On Monday, February 8th, and Tuesday, February 9th, we had to notify some of our families about a delayed bus route, due to the extremely cold temperatures. Because of the need to get the message out as quickly as possible, we elected to use both email and text messages to reach parents so they could ensure that their child was safe. To get the information out as quickly as possible we needed to send the message to all parents in the schools these busses serviced, whether their children rode the bus or not, as we don't have mailing lists set up for individual bus routes. Please know that we are working with Kobussen to set up mailing lists for urgent notices like this. As this may take some time, we may need to send additional messages to all until this process is complete. We thank you for your patience as we work to improve our systems. How is your child feeling about school?
The link to purchase will close on 3/15/21, so be sure to get your order in for the 2020-2021 yearbook today!!
Parenting Resources
Are you looking for great parenting resources to help you support your children socially, emotionally and academically? Here are a couple of wonderful websites and articles from our School Counselor Mrs. Charneski:
https://pbswisconsin.org/education/early-childhood/ - offers fun activities, parenting tips, and age appropriate games and apps
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ - offers an in depth look at media content and what is age appropriate and healthy for children and teens. Includes book, television, video game and app reviews. Helps parents navigate the fast paced world of changing media trends.
https://hms.harvard.edu/news/screen-time-brain - an interesting study on the effects of screen time on young developing brains.
Infinite Campus now includes a feature that will let parents excuse their student’s absences using the Parent Portal or the Campus Parent app on their phone. You can still call in your students as you always have by phone, but doing so with the Portal or App will allow you to avoid the phone message or excuse multiple students at different buildings at the same time, if needed.
Simply follow these instructions:
- Log in to the Parent Portal by visiting our website at http://www.kaukauna.k12.wi.us and clicking on the icon, or using the Campus Parent App from the App Store.
- Click on “More” in the left-hand column underneath the three lines icon
- Choose “Absence Requests” from the bottom of the screen.
- Select the student(s) for whom you wish to submit an absence.
- Choose the excuse from the drop-down list that best explains the reason for the absence.
- In the Comments field, include information about the reason for the absence.
- Choose the first day and last day of the absence.
- Choose whether the absence will be for a full day, late arrival, or if the student will leave early.
- If you choose Arrive Late, you will be asked for the arrival time. If you choose Leave Early, you will be asked for the leave time and, if returning, the return time.
- Hit “Submit.”
Please note that if your child’s absence is medically excused, you will need to provide a doctor’s note to the school office.
