Summer School Registration
REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN THIS FRIDAY, MAY 15 AT NOON.
SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION SYSTEM.
ALL CLASSES WILL BE FREE WITH MINIMAL OR NO SUPPLIES TO PURCHASE
Due to the state mandated Safer At Home order, Kaukauna Area School District is preparing to offer virtual summer school courses for our students. We believe these virtual courses will provide a great opportunity for students of all grade levels to connect with others and stay engaged over the summer months. We are disappointed that we cannot hold the traditional summer school experience, therefore KASD is working hard to utilize this opportunity to provide a unique and memorable experience for our students and families.

The Benefits
Continued opportunity to connect. Virtual summer school provides a safe environment for students to continue building relationships with their teachers and classmates.

Increased Flexibility
If your student does not wish to take three courses, they have the option to register for only one or two.

Student & Family Engagement
Due to early school closures, this summer vacation may feel very long. Participating in virtual summer school will provide a casual opportunity for students to apply their time and efforts towards topics that interest them most.

Who should attend?
All students are encouraged to attend Summer School! KASD Virtual Summer School is an academically rigorous and fun summer program that can improve students’ foundational skills and expand their knowledge and problem-solving abilities, all while reducing summer learning loss. A combination of core academic courses and enrichment classes provide learning that boosts students’ communication, social and leadership skills.

What is being offered?
Courses will range from core courses such as ELA and Math to some of our popular non-core courses such as Science Exploration and Ghost Training. The goal of these courses is to bring FUN and engaging core content areas for SUMMER! Students will be involved in activities, games, and fun challenges! These courses are open to all students.

How will it work?
Courses will be scheduled and teachers will deliver content virtually during the scheduled time for each class. We will use Google Classroom as our main platform this summer. Students will communicate with their teachers using Google Classroom through an email address. For students entering Grades K-2, the email address will be the primary email address for that student in Infinite Campus. Students entering grades 3-12 will use their school issued email address. Students will be expected to attend classes via Google Meets and interact with their classmates during their class times.

Registration Window:
Registration will open Friday, May 15th at noon and close on Friday, May 29th at noon. Please use the links located on the left side of our Kaukauna Area School District Summer School website to register. Families should expect to hear from their summer school teachers with class details after the registration window closes.

Plan for Continued Learning
In an effort to continue supporting our students during this unexpected school closure, a 4K-4th grade Continued Learning Plan has been developed. The intent is to provide all students with appropriate learning experiences at home designed to ensure students maintain and build their skills. The activities within the plan will include but are not limited to: physical play, the arts, reading, writing, math and more. At the elementary level, this plan provides families with activities that may include the use of technology, but are not dependent upon technology. As a guideline, it is recommended that students in 4K-4th Grade engage in the learning opportunities 60-90 minutes per day.
Please click on this link and you will be redirected to the KASD Flexible Learning web page. On this page families will find the Continued Learning Plan for each grade level. Additional 4K-4th Grade resources are also available along with links to the school’s library web page for a variety of free online resources.
You can look forward to hearing from your child’s classroom teacher prior to the end of the week via email (or classroom social media such as Google Classroom, SeeSaw, or other). Please monitor your email regularly through this closure as this will be the primary means of district communication.
We recognize that students left school prior to being able to bring home school supplies. If you are in need of school supplies (such as pencils, paper, etc.) there is a limited supply available outside the entrance of the elementary school buildings on Wednesday, March 18 from 8:00-4:00. Students and families will not be able to access the classroom for materials.
Thank you for your support and patience as this situation continues to develop. If you have questions please contact your building principal.

Parenting Resources
In today's fast paced, changing world it is sometimes hard to keep up with what your kids are watching, reading, playing and listening to on their media devices. However, the media that they put into their young and moldable brains, can have a critical impact on their social, emotional and academic development.
Are you looking for great parenting resources to help you support your children socially, emotionally and academically? Here are a couple of wonderful websites and articles from our School Counselor Mrs. Charneski:
https://pbswisconsin.org/education/early-childhood/ - offers fun activities, parenting tips, and age appropriate games and apps
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ - offers an in depth look at media content and what is age appropriate and healthy for children and teens. Includes book, television, video game and app reviews. Helps parents navigate the fast paced world of changing media trends.

Infinite Campus - New Absence Request Procedure
Infinite Campus now includes a feature that will let parents excuse their student’s absences using the Parent Portal or the Campus Parent app on their phone. You can still call in your students as you always have by phone, but doing so with the Portal or App will allow you to avoid the phone message or excuse multiple students at different buildings at the same time, if needed.

Simply follow these instructions:
  1. Log in to the Parent Portal by visiting our website at http://www.kaukauna.k12.wi.us and clicking on the  icon, or using the Campus Parent App from the App Store.
  2. Click on “More” in the left-hand column underneath the three lines icon
  3. Choose “Absence Requests” from the bottom of the screen.
  4. Select the student(s) for whom you wish to submit an absence.
  5. Choose the excuse from the drop-down list that best explains the reason for the absence.
  6. In the Comments field, include information about the reason for the absence.
  7. Choose the first day and last day of the absence.
  8. Choose whether the absence will be for a full day, late arrival, or if the student will leave early.
  9. If you choose Arrive Late, you will be asked for the arrival time. If you choose Leave Early, you will be asked for the leave time and, if returning, the return time.
  10. Hit “Submit.”
See below for an example of how the screen will appear:

Please note that if your child’s absence is medically excused, you will need to provide a doctor’s note to the school office.
