Please fill out this survey to let our team know how your child is feeling about school.  Our teachers are focusing on intentionally building social connections among peers and finding ways to sustain those connections throughout this unique school year.  Thank you for helping us continue to make Tanner School a safe and positive place for students to learn and grow.

Kids Heart Challange
It is that time of the year again! The Kids Heart Challenge (formally Jump Rope for Heart) is underway. Click here to find more information on fundraising for the American Heart Association. You can also go directly to our school page by clicking here. If you and your child choose to raise money, we ask that you donate online (no checks or cash please) by March 1st. The Kids Heart Challenge event will take place the week of February 22nd during your child's physical education time. Students will learn about heart health while being physically active. Please have your child dress in comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle that week. Thank you for your support!

4K Registration
Opens January 14th
Do you know anyone who has a student who will be 4 years old by September 1st, 2021 and would like to be a Tanner Tiger🐯?  They will be eligible to attend 4K for the 2021/22 school year. Online registration begins Thursday, January 14th at 7:00am.

Valentines Day 2021💕

Valentines Day will look a little different at school this year.  There will be no Valentine exchanges in our elementary classes district wide.  Teachers are allowed to do a classroom celebration which may include an exchange of valentine cards made at school.  In keeping with our "Stronger Together" plan items from home are not allowed for exchange at this time.  We appreciate your continued support as we do all we can to keep our elementary students safe and attending in person during this challenging school year.  Your child's teacher will explain their plans as we get closer to Valentines Day.

Tanner Library - Mrs. Sager

I added the February Choice Board to the Library Home Page and Symbaloo.

This gives students resources, read alouds, and activities to be used anytime. You will find resources about Groundhog Day, President's Day, Black History Month, and Valentine's Day. There are also choice boards with Space and Underwater themes. And there are some interactive activities.

Tanner students studied various book awards such as the Caldecott, the Coretta Scott King, and the Theodor Seuss Geisel. After reading and analyzing many new picture books they voted on the book they would choose to win the Caldecott award. Tanner students choose Lift by Minh Le and illustrated by Dan Santat. The Youth Media Awards will be announced on Monday January 25th. I wonder if our choice will win.

Virtual Student Library Checkout
We are excited to offer the opportunity for virtual students to check out library books from their home school. Use this form to request books. Include your email in the form so we can notify you when the books are available. Books will be on a cart between the double doors at the entrance of Tanner Elementary. We ask that books be returned within 2 weeks and a bin will be available between the double doors.
For entrance to the school use the buzzer. Please stay between the double doors when picking up or returning books. They will be available Monday - Friday during school hours.
This page on the library website has information about library book checkout for virtual students and the form for requesting books.
This QR code will get you to the form as well.

 Parenting Resources

In today's fast paced, changing world it is sometimes hard to keep up with what your kids are watching, reading, playing and listening to on their media devices. However, the media that they put into their young and moldable brains, can have a critical impact on their social, emotional and academic development.
Are you looking for great parenting resources to help you support your children socially, emotionally and academically? Here are a couple of wonderful websites and articles from our School Counselor Mrs. Charneski:
https://pbswisconsin.org/education/early-childhood/ - offers fun activities, parenting tips, and age appropriate games and apps
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ - offers an in depth look at media content and what is age appropriate and healthy for children and teens. Includes book, television, video game and app reviews. Helps parents navigate the fast paced world of changing media trends.
https://hms.harvard.edu/news/screen-time-brain - an interesting study on the effects of screen time on young developing brains.

Infinite Campus - Absence Request Procedure
Infinite Campus now includes a feature that will let parents excuse their student’s absences using the Parent Portal or the Campus Parent app on their phone. You can still call in your students as you always have by phone, but doing so with the Portal or App will allow you to avoid the phone message or excuse multiple students at different buildings at the same time, if needed.

Simply follow these instructions:
  1. Log in to the Parent Portal by visiting our website at http://www.kaukauna.k12.wi.us and clicking on the  icon, or using the Campus Parent App from the App Store.
  2. Click on “More” in the left-hand column underneath the three lines icon
  3. Choose “Absence Requests” from the bottom of the screen.
  4. Select the student(s) for whom you wish to submit an absence.
  5. Choose the excuse from the drop-down list that best explains the reason for the absence.
  6. In the Comments field, include information about the reason for the absence.
  7. Choose the first day and last day of the absence.
  8. Choose whether the absence will be for a full day, late arrival, or if the student will leave early.
  9. If you choose Arrive Late, you will be asked for the arrival time. If you choose Leave Early, you will be asked for the leave time and, if returning, the return time.
  10. Hit “Submit.”
See below for an example of how the screen will appear:

Please note that if your child’s absence is medically excused, you will need to provide a doctor’s note to the school office.
