Scholastic Virtual BOOKFAIR Open Till 3/30/21

Along with our Spring conferences, Tanner is having a Virtual Book Fair. Each teacher has created a wish list. These wish lists are available by clicking HERE.  Families wishing to make a book donation to a classroom can choose a book from the teacher's tab on the signup genius, open the link to the Scholastic page on-line and purchase the book.  The books will be delivered to your home and the student can deliver the book to their teacher.  The virtual bookfair will remain open until March 30th, 2021.  The purchase of a book is optional.

Kaukauna Public Library News

The Kaukauna Public Library recently added some emerging reader book kits for checkout through grants provided by Jeweler’s Mutual and John & Sally Mielke Early Years Fund for the Fox Valley. The books range from levels A-J or grades K-2. The books can be found at the library in the youth area on the spinner labeled Early Readers. The kits indicate the level of each book inside. The library is open regular hours by capacity and the kits can also be requested through curbside pickup.

Anyone can get a library card! Adults need to bring identification and proof of current address (if not on their identification) to get a card for themselves or children. Children will recognize many characters in the kits as they were purchased from the same vendors we order our school books from! This is a great opportunity for you to continue to work on daily reading with your child.

Lost and Found

The lost and found at Tanner is overflowing.  Please look over the pictures below and let us know if any lost items might belong to your student.  Thank you.

Recess Time

We are already experiencing a bit of the seasonal melting on the playground. This leads to a variety of challenges each year. As you know the uniqueness of this year has also required us to mitigate at recess with the implementation of playground 'zones'. We will be moving away from the zones beginning March 8th. This will give students more options on the playground, not only for places to play but for friends to play with. With the approval of the district Contact Tracing team, the elementary schools are ready for this change and excited to provide less restrictive options for students during this free playtime. Please contact me with any questions. I'd be happy to talk more about this. thoresone@kaukaunasd.org

Wet Clothing
With the spring melt also comes the need for those extra clothes in backpacks. We often have wet socks, pants, gloves, etc. Any additional items, for your child, are helpful.

Student/Staff COVID-19 Rapid Testing

Dear Families,

Kaukauna Area School District has launched a school-based COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program. The purpose of this testing program is to provide students and staff within our school community easy, on campus access to a 15-minute COVID-19 rapid antigen test (Abbott BinaxNOW, supplied by ThedaCare) in order to more quickly identify those who have the virus, so those individuals can isolate sooner and minimize the spread of the virus within our schools.

After consultation with your school’s Health Office, an individual interested in testing should contact Vicki Becker at 920-766-6113 ext. 5448 or beckerv@kaukaunasd.org to schedule an appointment. The drive-thru test will be administered at Kaukauna High School (circle drive, adjacent the Bank of Kaukauna Stadium, Door #AA4); there is no charge for the testing. A testing technician at the site will provide additional necessary information, and a signed waiver is required for each self- or parent-administered nasal swab test. Those testing will get a phone call with results, which will be reported to the individual within 20 minutes, and then reported to the State. More information on the testing process can be viewed on the Abbott BinaxNow web page.

Be well,
Mark P. Duerwaechter
Superintendent

 Parenting Resources

In today's fast paced, changing world it is sometimes hard to keep up with what your kids are watching, reading, playing and listening to on their media devices. However, the media that they put into their young and moldable brains, can have a critical impact on their social, emotional and academic development.
Are you looking for great parenting resources to help you support your children socially, emotionally and academically? Here are a couple of wonderful websites and articles from our School Counselor Mrs. Charneski:
https://pbswisconsin.org/education/early-childhood/ - offers fun activities, parenting tips, and age appropriate games and apps
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ - offers an in depth look at media content and what is age appropriate and healthy for children and teens. Includes book, television, video game and app reviews. Helps parents navigate the fast paced world of changing media trends.

  6. In the Comments field, include information about the reason for the absence.
  7. Choose the first day and last day of the absence.
  8. Choose whether the absence will be for a full day, late arrival, or if the student will leave early.
  9. If you choose Arrive Late, you will be asked for the arrival time. If you choose Leave Early, you will be asked for the leave time and, if returning, the return time.
  10. Hit “Submit.”

Kobussen Late Bus Text/Email Messages

On Monday, February 8th, and Tuesday, February 9th, we had to notify some of our families about a delayed bus route, due to the extremely cold temperatures. Because of the need to get the message out as quickly as possible, we elected to use both email and text messages to reach parents so they could ensure that their child was safe. To get the information out as quickly as possible we needed to send the message to all parents in the schools these busses serviced, whether their children rode the bus or not, as we don't have mailing lists set up for individual bus routes. Please know that we are working with Kobussen to set up mailing lists for urgent notices like this. As this may take some time, we may need to send additional messages to all until this process is complete. We thank you for your patience as we work to improve our systems.
